About Me
Hi, I'm Colette, a former fitness instructor and trainer who is now a freelance wellness writer and content creator for health and fitness brands.
I also write a blog that covers all things health and fitness: Fitness Spice Latte — check it out!
I broke out of the print advertising industry to go back to doing what I love: writing and wellness. One day, I’ll go back to teaching fitness classes once I become settled enough to get my head back in the game. But home workouts, strength training, and cycling have been more of a thing for me lately! Although I’m no longer training or teaching, I now reach people through wellness writing, and I thoroughly enjoy it.
Early days
Let’s start with my early days in the fitness world. Fitness and movement have been a part of my life since childhood. As a kid, I would play one of my mom’s exercise tapes and follow along. There were also exercise programs that would air on TV in the mornings, and I would sometimes follow along with them.
You’d think from there, I would’ve tried out for cheerleading or played sports when high school came along.
Never played any sports in high school!
Though I was going to try my luck on the tennis team, I chickened out. But even though I wasn’t active in school sports, I’d still be on an active kick outside of school. From time to time, I would steal my dad’s weights and just start lifting, followed by a round on his exercise bike that may have been around since I was 5 years old.
Fast forward to 22 years old — I lost 40 lbs after a bad breakup, got fit, and no one could tell me a thing! The rest happened naturally. I became a certified fitness instructor a couple of years later and then a personal trainer shortly after.
Writing
Growing up, reading and literature have always been my best subjects in school. What really kicked off my love for writing was when I was given my first diary for Christmas at 9 years old. I still have old entries dating back to middle school!
I will say that the number one person who inspired me to start writing at that age was Louisa May Alcott, and one of the main characters in her novel, Little Women. I’ve been inspired to write ever since.
Not a day has gone by that I haven’t written. Being the kind of person who always had problems processing my emotions, writing has always gotten me through that, all the way up to this point.
When I’m not lifting weights, cycling, or going on meditation walks, you’ll find me writing short stories, blogging about wellness, or creating health content for clients. I also journal, read, and occasionally travel.
After overcoming some milestones, I’m happy to say that I got my mojo back, and I’m finally back to working on the romantic thriller novels that I started writing five years ago and never finished!
